The Department of Investigation (DRI) is going to conduct an investigation after the seizure of estimated 80 to 100 kg of gold from a taxi that passed the customs inspection at Tribhuvan International Airport on Wednesday.
The Revenue Investigation Department has recovered gold in its largest ever result. The gold was brought on a Cathay Pacific Airlines flight from Hong Kong in the brake shoe of a scooter.
The department has so far arrested 6 people involved in it. One of the arrested is also an agent.
According to Director General of DRI Navraj Dhungana, efforts to locate the remaining fugitives are underway. The identities of those arrested have not been made revealed yet.
Punya Vikram Khadka, director and information officer of the department, informed that the persons involved in the airport's customs check pass have been suspended and prepared to investigate. He said that the department is preparing to form a committee to investigate.
