Former President and Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed will be reportedly signing to The Democrats on Wednesday night, during the party’s inaugural gathering.

A trusted source has confirmed this to Sun.

The Elections Commission (EC) has formerly approved formation of new political party The Democrats on Sunday, July 2, 2023. With that, as dictated in the law, the party has scheduled to host its inaugural gathering on Wednesday, July 5, at 2030 hrs.

Nasheed who left Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) on June 21, has revealed that he will be taking part in this gathering.

The members of MDP who supported Nasheed’s Fikkurege Dhirun campaign are the ones who are not on the forefront of forming The Democrats.

While Democrats have said that they will be contesting in the upcoming Presidential Elections, it is likely that their candidate is Nasheed.
