With heatwave turning everyone's life into a misery last week, Dhaka dwellers welcomed the monsoon on Monday morning with light showers and thunderbolts.
Earlier, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) in its morning bulletin forecast light showers as southwest monsoon set in over Bangladesh.
“Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and weak to moderate over North Bay,” said BMD.
“Light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind is likely at many places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna and Sylhet divisions and at a few places over Chittagong and Barisal divisions with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places over the country,” said the morning bulletin of Met office.
Mild heat wave is sweeping over Khulna division and the districts of Rajshahi and Pabna and it may abate, it said.
Day and night temperature may fall slightly over the country.
The weather office recorded the highest rainfall of 117mm in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong in 24 hours till 9am on Monday.
The highest temperature was recorded at 37.8°C in Jessore, while the lowest temperature was recorded at 21.5°C in Cox's Bazar's Kutubdia.
