Journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi were killed in their flat in West Razabazar in February 2012
A Dhaka court has extended till May 22 the deadline for submission of the probe report in a case filed over the killing of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi in February 2012.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rashidul Alam passed the order on Sunday – making it the 97th extension of the deadline – after the Rapid Action Battalion's investigating officer, Police Superintendent Khondoker Md Shafiqul Alam, failed to submit the report.
Earlier, two separate courts expressed dissatisfaction over the probe and the investigating agency's failure to figure out the motive behind the murders and arrest the real culprits.
Sagar, news editor at the private TV channel Maasranga, and his wife, Runi, senior reporter at ATN Bangla, were killed on February 11, 2012, in their rented flat in the capital's West Razabazar area. Their only son, Mahir Sarowar Megh, then 5, was home at that time.
Nousher Ali Roman, brother of Runi, filed a case at Sher-e-Bangla police station the following day in connection with the murders.
