Police brought the situation under control and allowed the vehicle to leave the area safely
BNP International Affairs Secretary Barrister Rumeen Farhana has accused Chhatra League activists of launching an attack on her motorcade in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria.
The alleged attack took place when she was on her way back to Dhaka after attending a meeting organized by the local BNP unit as part of a program of the party on Saturday.
According to different sources, after receiving the news of the arrival of Rumeen Farhana, leaders and activists of Sarail Chhatra League gathered at the spot, protesting and chanting slogans against her.
They also chased the car she was in and her motorcade.
Upon receiving the information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control and allowed the vehicle to leave the area safely.
Sarail Chhatra League President Sharif Uddin said: “Rumeen Farhana is not from Sarail-Ashuganj. She is an outsider here. She often comes here and spreads lies against the government. Besides, she taunted Sarail Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League. We tried to resist her with our protest. Her lies will be countered in the same way in the coming days.”
Dhaka Tribune could not reach the former BNP lawmaker on the phone despite several attempts.
However, she accused ruling party men of attacking her car on Facebook.
Sarail police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Alam Miah said it was not an attack; activists flanked her car. Later, police removed them and allowed Rumeen Farhana's car to move.
Brahmanbaria Superintendent of Police Sakhawat Hossain said he is not aware of the incident but is looking into the issue.
