As the preparation for launching the Dhaka-Bhanga rail route via Padma Bridge is at the final stage, the government is working to fix the ticket prices for this new service.
When contacted, several officials of Bangladesh Railway told Dhaka Tribune that the fare was not fixed yet. It may be fixed within this month or before the inauguration on October 10.
Sources said the ticket prices will be fixed according to the existing fare parameter and considering the toll of the Padma Bridge and the 82km-distance.
The minimum fare is likely to be Tk150-200 for adults in Shovon Chair.
Asked about the fare, Padma Bridge Rail Link Project Director Afzal Hossain told Dhaka Tribune Thursday that they will be able to finalize the fare before the inauguration.
The project includes the construction of 172km rail tracks and stations.
