Nov. 7: Veteran folk singer Tirtha Kumari Thapa is set to host her first solo musical evening ‘Tirtha Kumari Golden Evening 2080’.
The musical evening is scheduled to be held at Rastriya Naach Ghar, Jamal on November 24.
Organised by Annapurna Chamber Orchestra, the event is co-organised by Kathmandu Pragya Kunja School and Tulasi Bhakta Construction Pvt. Ltd.
Thapa, with over five decades of experience in the Nepali folk music scene, will be showcasing her talent in the solo performance for the first time.
She will be performing her popular songs ‘Ma Ta Khadina Kuwako Pani’, ‘Dhunge Bagara Maya’, ‘Jhamke Fuli’, ‘Ukalima Pani Hajur Motor Jado Raichha’, ‘Bariko Dilma Okharbot’, ‘Machhi Marana Hai Dai Ho’, and many more.
The event will feature approximately a dozen of her iconic songs, and tickets for entry are Rs. 2,000, Rs.15,00 and Rs.1,000.
Thapa’s son and musician Suraj Thapa expressed his commitment to ensuring that the solo evening would be a grand success.
Thapa embarked on her singing and music journey by recording songs for Radio Nepal in 1971 and she has since recorded more than 1,000 songs.
Her contribution to musical programmes in support of various social causes has earned her numerous honours, medals, and awards, including the ‘Prabal Gorkha Dakshinbahu 2057’ and the ‘Birendra Aishwarya Sewa Padak 2058’.
