SATV Feb 11,KATHMANDU: A two-day bamboo products exhibition has been organised in Dhanushadham, Dhanusha, with the aim of promoting environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional materials. 

The event has been arranged with the support of Habitat for Humanity Nepal in collaboration with the Community Improvement Centre, Dhanusha.

Sanjay Kumar Sah, president of the Community Improvement Centre, highlighted the importance of increasing bamboo usage as a sustainable alternative to concrete and wood. 

He emphasised that houses constructed with processed bamboo can be just as durable as permanent structures.

He further mentioned that since bamboo grows rapidly, it can serve as a means of economic prosperity. 

Sah expressed concern over the declining use of bamboo products, as materials like silver, steel, zinc, and plastic have gained market preference. 

He stressed that plastic materials contribute to environmental pollution and negatively impact health, making it essential to promote bamboo products as a sustainable and eco-friendly resource.

In Nepali society, bamboo is used from birth to death, and although it absorbs more carbon and releases more oxygen than trees, the market system for bamboo products has not expanded sufficiently, he informed.

The exhibition features a variety of bamboo-made items, drawing interest from visitors eager to explore its multi-purpose applications and environmental benefits. 

According to the organisers, the event is fostering awareness about the potential of bamboo as a renewable and eco-friendly resource.
